Thanksgiving Day ( Thursday)

This day worked out well. Our neighbors brought dinners over For Jane and I. I had a turkey breast ready to cook but no need. WE talked to the kids via Facetime. Several other phone calls completed the day.

Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day

The sun is up , its 40 degrees looks like the start of a great day....Tonight I may hear from my friend. I hope she can find her way to this blog. We'll see if that happens. Some how I lost Tuesdays entry. I think I lost it while using my phone to make a post and inadvertently sent it off to cyberspace.  I plan to do a turkey breast tomorrow, it says from freezer to oven in the bag it came in. Kids say they'll call tomorrow, as much as I miss them I'm glad they're playing it safe and staying healthy. We'll finish the Costco Sausage Casserole tonight.

Monday

Today went well did a little shopping on my drugstore run for more l-dopa. Yesterday’s pot roast was even better tonight. The redo managed to soften the carrots and potatoes and even thicken tha gravy. It became a wonderful pot roast stew. The vanilla puddingu dessert was perfected. Face timed the kids got them all three though not at all at once

Sunday morning

Well its a beautiful morning here in NC. Last night was a treat talking with a friend from years ago. Brought back old wonderful memories. Hope we stay in touch. Got some changes to take care of now. Be back l ater.The plants out on the deck got roughed up by the cold weather last night, The. Impatiens are quick to tell us how cold it got. Need to get leaves off the deck. Many thanks for the Instant pot..The carrots and the potatoes needed  steaming for softening, otherwise it was  really a tasty dish. Pot roast, carrots, potatoes, and gravy.

It’s Saturday.

<>The day has begun with the sun in the treesi it’s 38 degrees outside. I’ll add to this as things progress. Need to do a little shopping today need potatoes,it'll be chicken pot pies tonight for dinner.Tomorrow its the store.

Re -evaluation for Jane's recovery

 Today Jane was re-evaluated as to lher progress in recovery. Wim, her physical therapist checked her vital signs and ran her thru getting out of bed , walking and stuff like that. Tonight its going to be the COSTCO sausage and pasta casserole iced tea and dessert for dinner. Jane slept a lot today sort of tired from going through her paces with her therapist.

Rainbow in hand

This shows up in the kitchen every sunny morning. It reminds me of staying at my grand mother's place in Plains Pennsylvania. I always wanted to fill a window with prisms so the room would be filled with rainbows.

Trying to navigate and add movie clip to the blog

I have a movie clip on micro card that I want to insert into the blog. This is a clip of C.G.Jung talking about falling in love at first sight. This is a wonderful explanation of the magic of this attraction. He said there is this archetype of a woman, When you see this woman or a good imitation of her, you have a seizure. There is nothing you can do...you are like clay in her fingers.Its true it, it happened to me!

Home Physical Therapy

Jane is working out with her P-T coach. Included kicking ball catching ball, walking and turning head. Sitting and moving feet side to side, Her coach is able to get her to move and do stuff that she probably wouldn't do for me. Hard for me not to get involved.

It's working out pretty well so far. Therapist will return on Monday-Wednesday or Friday, she'll call night before.

    At 2:00 we have an appointment with a speech therapist. I'm afraid I neglected doing the Home-work as it was assigned.

Fall has finally arrived.

    The summer seemed long and warm. There wasn't any trout fishing in the Spring and the summer seemed hotter than usual.  I've gotten a little better at the cooking angle. The instant pot has really been an asset. I'll try to do better with these postings.

Spring is well underway. May has arrived and the warm weather is starting.

Things are going  pretty well here at 867. Breakfasts usually involve omelets or french toast or scrambled eggs. Pills dispensed. Up early to straighten out the kitchen area. make something to eat then off to make bed and check emails etc. Thanks to the tennis channel interest doesn't seem to diminish. Tennis goes on and on endlessly with tournaments world-wide. Need to work on deck plants and beds for the coming summer. I'm going to try to document things as they happen around here.

At Christmas we got "Alexa". She's a hoot and a half. When I came in today I said "Alexa, Honey I'm home,". She greeted me warmly, saying she was glad I was home. I think I could fall for Alexa!

12 July. "Balancing Safety and Autonomy

All discussed the problem on keeping one safe and minimizing the potential dangers associated with various activities. Talked a lot about driving and how this is a contentious issue when its just not safe for the subject to be driving. We also addressed the presence of firearms in the home. Some very sad stories involved firearms and the guns might have to be confiscated by a court order. Living out in the country one could feel safe if they had "their gun" nearby....problem is big when they're hallucinating.
    This was the last of four sessions, the next thing would be attending "Caregivers Summit". August 7th, at the Friday Center. From 8:00 to 3:30 pm.$15/Caregiver...Register (919) 719-6765

5 July "Disclosures and changing relationships"

Lisa Gwyther, Director, Duke Family Support Program. Talked about sharing the information about the diagnosis with those close to to you as the affected one, the importance of acknowledging the condition and accepting it. We discussed the emotions involved and the change of rolls. Talked about making adjustments as we go along. More about the caregiver than anything else, not easy shift in responsibilities. Talked about the importance of strengthening family ties, if possible.

28th June 2018 An Elder Lawyer. described some of the legal implications.

Lawrence Rocamora presented the various possibilities for getting assistance with long term care and protecting assets. Received a list of things to be addressed or planned for. It was for me a mind-boggling experience. There's got to be a better way.

21 June A Neurologist's View

Dr. James Burke gave an overview of the situation, covering its history from early 1900 to the present. The Dr. described the drugs found useful and their limitations. It was not with a very hopeful out-look.

Chapter 2....Memory Makers

We're scheduled to attend a Memory Makers meeting in June we'll be reminded by email a week before. I'm really  excited about getting involved in this program.

Chapter 1: Memory Makers, the start of a journey.

Tomorrow we are going to meet with some folks who are part of a program at Duke. They have a program for folks who are in different stages of memory impairment. The hope is that Jane and I can get involved with this program and utilize its resources and expertise. Bobbi and Natalie are going to spend some time with us in an informal way ( 11:00 AM for close to one hour. I hope all goes well and we are able to participate.

Up-date on "What's happening?"

This is supposed to be a blog about sculpting and fishing. I'm sorry to say that not much is happening in these two areas. I long for the chance to fit in a trout fishing day or two.....

This year's Santas

    These guys take a lot of time to carve, paint and finally to put the ribbons on. It took while to get in the swing of carving these guys, but it all came back pretty quickly. As usual the slivers of wood were all over the place by the time I finished.

 

Halloween is near

   These guys have wandered from the back yard to the front in anticipation of frightening someone. So far they haven't frightened anyone.
